This book is intended as a remedial tool for use with students experiencing difficulties with phonics and sound sequencing as they relate to reading and to spelling. However, teachers will find that the activities are challenging and appropriate for use with all beginning readers. The tasks in this book were specifically designed to teach phonics through the development of the skills and learning process as follows: Sound-symbol associations; Long/short vowel contrasts; Blending and sound sequencing; Auditory discrimination of sounds and words; Recognition of letter order and Self-evaluation. The tasks are fun--but they are not easy. Depending upon each child's skill level, the teacher or parent may find it necessary to work along with the child, especially as the child begins the task.
